It dates back to 1935.
Armand Petitjean was looking for a name that sounded typically French like Vendôme or Brantôme. One of his assistants suggested "Lancosme" (the "s" is not pronounced) - the name of a château in the Loiret region. The idea went over well and so the spelling was changed. The circumflex perched above the "o" that replaced the "s" today pays tribute to the origins of the brand as proudly as the little flag floating above the international cosmetics building.
1969
Ô becomes the name of a fresh eau de toilette that seems to spring from the very heart of Lancôme.
1986
The launch of Niosôme, followed by Noctosôme night care three years later. Both rhyme with Lancôme.
1987
Ô Intense. Another Ô bearing the same little hat.
1990
20th anniversary of Sicos, the Lancôme factory located in Caudry, northern France. As a reward, Sicos is crowned with its own accent and renamed: SICÔS.
1995
With Poême, the little hat abandons its favourite letter, the O, and jumps onto the next one over. After all, isn't poetry but a game?
1996
Ô for Men. The symbol of masculinity joins forces with the circumflex for a new eau de toilette for men.
1997
The Sôleil Line. The circumflex seems to provide shelter from those scorching summer sun rays and covers all the products in the range.
1998
Ô Oui ! Summer again, with this even fresher version of Ô. Yes! to love. Yes! to life. The exclamation mark reinforces the enthusiasm of this brand new Ô.
2004
More intimate, more emotional, more alive, more human and more sensitive, Lancôme expresses itself in the first person and opts for a new, handwritten signature, with its own interpretation of the circumflex - a true modern expression of its closeness to women.
